The Age of Your Roof

As your roof ages, it begins to break down. Although we recommend regular inspections, if your roof is more than ten years old and you’ve never had a roofing inspection, you likely need to call a local roof repair company. Many 3-tab shingle roofs don’t last much longer than ten years and have multiple issues. Although an architectural shingle roof will last longer, regular inspection and maintenance will help it last as long as possible, even up to 25 years depending on the roof.

The Shingles

Look at your shingles. If you can’t get up on a ladder to look at them close up, get a pair of binoculars. Your shingles should lay flat against the roof and should form a neat line across. When a shingle becomes detached, it may not always fly away but it may become skewed. If you don’t have clean lines across your roof, you may have loose shingles that may be able to be re-attached. Curled, bubbling, or torn shingles should be replaced immediately. If it’s only a small area that is curled, you may have another underlying issue that needs to be solved before those shingles are replaced.

Your Attic

Go in your attic during the day and look for visible light. That is a sure sign that there is a problem on your roof and you need the help of a local roof repair company. Other signs are streaking on the ceiling and damp insulation. Both are signs that water is getting into your home. If your attic isn’t accessible, look at your ceiling and walls for discoloration or bubbling paint. This may be a sign of a roof leak.
