What is Fascia?

How Does Fascia Get Damaged?
The most common cause of damage is water overflowing your gutters. If you have clogged gutters and the water runs over the top of them, it’s likely it’s also running down the back. The constant stream of water against the fascia will lead to rot. Because it’s wood and, when hidden by gutters, it’s not always well maintained. As that wood deteriorates, water begins to get into your home leading to a roof leak that damages your walls, ceilings, floors and more!
Soffits
Your soffits are much easier to spot and inspect, however, not everyone does. Just walk around your home under the eves of your roof and look up. That plastic or metal vent that runs under your roof’s edge is your soffits. They’re part of your roof’s ventilation system. You want to make sure they run in a continuous manner all the way around. Even the smallest of cracks and holes lead to pests like bees, wasps, bats, and rodents in your attic. Once they’re inside, they can do all sorts of damage.
Also, make sure your landscaping isn’t obstructing the soffits. Because they’re part of your roof’s ventilation system, they help your attic breathe. When it can’t, your shingles will age more rapidly and humidity can get caught in your attic which will lead to mold and mildew.
